Artist Stacey Wells grew up in the beauty of North Vancouver where she began her love for drawing .Sadly when Stacey was two her father Warner Wells, was killed in a plane crash when a passenger put a bomb on board the commercial plane he was piloting.. Because of this Stacey spent countless wonderful hours at her grandparents who lived on the waterfront at 18th and Argyle in West Vancouver .Her Grandfather would teach her to skip rocks on the ocean ,she loved to watch the ripples in the sunlight , this is where her fascination with water and reflections began .Years later Stacey traveled with her mom and sisters to Australia where they lived out their fathers dream to take his family there. With stays in Fiji ,and Hawaii along the way Stacey catalogued the colors, sights in her minds eye to eventually unleash in her, large vibrant acrylic paintings and unique underwater portraits. Stacey Attended Carson Graham Secondary which had an incredible art program. Stacey flourished with great mentors, Wing Chow and Martin Place, who taught commercial design, lithography and sculpture. Stacey excelled in sculpture and won a scholarship award for her work. In her early work she was inspired by Andrew Wyeth and credits her technical drawing skills to hours of studying his work. As the years progressed Stacey found new inspiration in artists such as Warhol, Gauguin, Van Gogh and Dali, Stacey’s style loosened up and with each passionate brush stroke she created her own unique style. After high school Stacey Attended Capilano College and completed 1 year in the studio arts program . Eventually Wells moved to a rich artist’s community where Stacey took classes at and entered her work in a well known Art School and Gallery. She was awarded peoples choice, best in Show. This artist has done many series of artworks encompassing subject matter such as water, underwater portraits, Rock stars, hockey players, and is working on a series of paintings of Vancouver.Wells began painting portraits as a teenager, her first portrait was a drawing of Rod Stewart , the artist imediately fell in love with faces ,and of course rock stars as the music,light and relections are constant inspirations.Since then Rod Stewart has pulled Wells up on stage at two different concerts. With recent trips to Beijing and Waikiki ,Phoenix, Sanfrancisco and the Napa Valley ,Stacey has much inspiration for her next paintings. Wells is now painting Trevor Linden and donating the art work to charity to raise money for Canuck Place. Stacey has donated paintings to the annual art action, Art works for Annmore ( a fundraiser to buy arts supplies for the school) hosted by Perry Solkowski .At the local elementary school Stacey has donated many enjoyable hours teaching portrait classes to the grade 7 students. Wells is painting a series of wine paintings and has a show in the spring entitled Rock stars and Legends at the Cosentino winery in Napa Valley. www.artistwells.zoomshare.com stacew@shaw.ca |
